TV Zombies

My children watch very little tv. When they do get to watch Elmo this is what happens- they are glued to the screen. If they are going to watch something as least Sesame Street is teaching them something good and educational. It also gives me about an hour of uninterrupted work time.

Girl Time

Yesterday evening Squirrel and I got to spend some quality girl time together. We painted fingernails and toenails and she even let me braid her hair (Which until this point is something she has only let Aunt Cricket do.). We read books and she went walking with me. She was so tickled over her nails and kept saying "Daddy will be so happy.". I'm not sure what she thought he would do, but she knew he would like them. As soon as he pulled up the drive she started modeling for him. She is very eager to please her Daddy. If we could only learn from her example and be as eager to please our Heavenly Father.

Imaginations

I'm happy to say that my children have great imaginations. Possum especially has an active one. These pictures were made yesterday evening as the kids were out "hunting". They rode around in their four-wheeler shooting whatever varmint they could think of and then built a fire and cooked the meat. The second picture shows the fire they were building.
The third picture of Squirrel is especially for Nana Bama who loves chocolate. We had Joel's Sunday school class over for dinner last night. For dessert we had molten chocolate lava cakes with Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream (Yes, I did eat dessert. That is why I'm walking/running. So I can enjoy treats occasionally!!) Both of the kids enjoyed the dessert that they had helped Mommy make. Squirrel really got into her dessert. Let's just say that as soon as she was finished she had to be placed in the bathtub.
While we were in West Virginia at the Nationals, Possum decided that he had an imaginary friend. His name is Migo. We think the name came from the Spanish word for friend-amigo. Anyways, we learn new things about Migo everyday. Migo's likes to fix things. Which is good, because things are always tearing up around our house! His daddy is also a preacher like Possum's daddy is. Squirrel is scared of Migo. I'm not sure why, but she is.
Joel and I tried to play into the Migo act, but the plan backfired (mainly on me since it was my idea). Last Saturday night Hannah and Mason were staying with us all night so their parents could go out for their anniversary. Possum wanted Migo to spend the night as well. I told him sure and so Possum called Migo to come over. Joel was going running and so I told him before he came back in the house ring the doorbell and I would answer the door, pretending that Migo was here.
The kids were sitting at the bar eating pie and the doorbell rang. I answered the door acting like I was talking to Migo's mom. I invited Migo in, told him to put his suitcase in Possum's room and asked him if he wanted some pie. Possum started looking for Migo, but of course there was not really a little boy here. He then begins crying. I am still playing along with the act until I see that he is really upset. Joel comes in the door, playing along with the act, but realized that Possum is really heart-broken. We apologize and explain that we were just pretending like he was. I guess he thought that his pretend friend really was real. It was one thing when he used his imagination, but I don't guess that Daddy and Mommy are supposed to have one. I don't think we will try this again.
As long as Migo doesn't start getting Possum into trouble he can stay around. Otherwise, he will have to go. The next time we come to visit you make sure you ask about Migo. Don't be scared if he is along for the ride-he's harmless (unless you ask Squirrel).

Fun at the Creek

We took the teens from church to the creek today for some water fun and a cookout. Possum and Squirrel got to come along and they had a great time. Squirrel enjoyed floating down the creek and Possum swam (with a life jacket on). We were so excited because he normally can be a little scared of the water. He had so much fun and was very brave. Possum also caught a catfish. I'm sure we will have to go to the creek again soon because the kids loved it. I love it too because now they are both worn out and sound asleep!

Sunday Trouble-Again!

Our Sunday's are always exciting and busy! As you can see, the kids are worn out. Squirrel was sound asleep after church this morning and Possum was asleep during church tonight. After church tonight we had an ice cream fellowship (which Possum slept through). Joel left after the fellowship with Mr. BJ and I was going to run Mrs. Joann home after we had cleaned up.

The last two pictures show the trouble I had. Mrs. Joann warned me to watch all the walls and curbs around their drive, but as you can see I missed one. She was walking in the house and had turned her head to warn me about this last one, but it was too late. I couldn't stop. It didn't sound good. The pictures really don't look that bad, but we had to call a tow truck to come and back me up. Thankfully, Mr. BJ and Mrs. Joann are good friends with a guy with a tow truck (I am not the first person that has done this, nor will I probably be the last) and he came and rescued me. He said that if I had tried to come on over the wall it would have torn the back of my vehicle off. I'm glad I didn't try that! Thanks Mrs. Joann for talking me out of that. Anyways, we made it out of the drive safely without any damage (that I know of) and Possum was really excited about "that big truck that picked Mommy's truck up off the ground". He talked about it all the way home. I'm sure everyone will hear this story again. There are no secrets around our house anymore.

You never know what may happen around here-especially on Sunday's!

Corn Shuckers For Hire

We started our day by going to the Amish and picking up the corn we had ordered. The kids were eager to help. The eagerness wore off as they began to get hot, tired, and hungry, but it quickly returned when they learned that if they weren't working they were headed to bed for a nap. Possum shucked a baker's dozen all by himself. It took him half a day, but he did it. He actually did a very good job. Squirrel could get the corn shucked, but had a hard time getting it silked. We love corn, but as I was finishing up the last of the 19 dozen ears that we had bought I was wondering "Is it really worth all the work?". When I see the kid's faces as they eat the corn I know the answer is yes. Needless to say, it has been a very long day.

Friends

We had some "old" and "new" friends over for dinner last night. The house was full, with kids running everywhere. Possum had waited all day for our "friends" to get here and had kept his room so clean. Within 5 minutes every toy in his toy box had been dumped out into the floor. The toy box was so empty that Squirrel fell in it and was screaming because she couldn't get out.
Everyone enjoyed a fish fry, except Joel, who dropped grease on his toe. Of course something is going to happen to him. Trouble follows the poor man! There was pie of every kind-chocolate, chocolate mousse, coconut cream and fresh peach with Blue Bell ice cream. Mason especially enjoyed the delicious watermelon that Mr. BJ and Mrs. Joann brought. He even tried to eat the rind.
Possum and Squirrel enjoyed horsey rides from Hannah. The other pictures are of the three stooges trying to get my table apart. Thankfully, it came apart and went back together without a scratch. Everyone had a fun time and left with very full bellies.
